Natarajan Chandrasekaran (Chandra) is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of the company. Mr Chandra is recently appointed the chairman of Tata Sons. He will replace Mr Ratan Tata.


Mr Chandra is first non Parasi chairman of Tata Sons.

Early Life and Education  

He was born in 1963,in Tamil Nadu.He did BSc from Coimbatore Institute of Technology and his Masters Degree in Computer Applications from the Regional Engineering College, Trichy, in Tamil Nadu, in 1986.”One job,” says Mr Chandrasekaran, summing up his career ever since he exchanged planting for programming. “I never applied for a job.” He did his college project work at TCS and two months into the task, was asked by the company would he mind joining it. The offer letter was in his hands before the project was completed. And the future CEO happily accepted it.


He joined TCS in 1987.summing his 20 year career in T.C.S.He says,”I never had a lean period in the last 20 years. It was never that I did something and was waiting for the next assignment. Most of the time, I was either finishing an assignment or just about to finish or even not finishing an assignment, I was given the next job. So, I pretty much enjoyed it.”
A successful performance for a US federal government project in 1993 set Mr Chandrasekaran’s career on a rapid growth path, eventually landing him as the personal assistant of the then new chief executive, S Ramadorai. Chandra was working in the UK in 1997 and had met Mr Ramadorai only a couple of times earlier when the CEO called him and asked him to come over.
Later In his role as Chief Operating Officer, he was the architect of the new organization structure unveiled in 2008 which created multiple agile business units focused on domains and markets as well as built strategic business units to pursue new initiatives with the ability to invest, develop and mature new ideas.

Under his leadership, TCS has pioneered the creation of its unique Global Network Delivery Model (GNDM) across five continents and ventured into new markets including Europe, China and Latin America. It added new business lines like BPO, Infrastructure and Assurance services. Chandra has also driven the domain diversification drive which has seen the company enter new verticals like Media and Information Services as well as Hi-tech. All of these have matured into sizeable businesses under his mentorship and guidance.

Awards and recognition

NDTV Business Leader of the Year IT, 2011.he also came in  Top 25 most influential consultants in the world, 2006.He recieved AIMA Business Leader award for 2011.
Presentlly Chandra lives in Mumbai, with his wife Lalitha. The couple have a son named Pranav.
