Early life and Education :- She was born on 7 September 1983 in Wardha, Maharashtra and brought up in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Jwala’s father, Kranti Gutta,a Telugu Indian, hailed from a family of freedom fighters and Leftists. Her mother, Yelan Gutta, was born in Tianjin, and is a granddaughter of a Gandhian named Tseng. Both of them are ardent Mahatma Gandhi’s followers. She married Kranti in 1982 and settled in Hyderabad in 1988.Jwala received her education at Hyderabad, and began playing the game of Badminton at quite an early age.Jwala has a younger sister Insi Gutta.
National Badminton Career:-At the age of 10 years she began her training under Mr. S.M. Arif.She won was the Mini National Badminton Championship for the girls under 13 years of age.That was also her first title.Jwala won the Junior National Badminton Championship when she was 17 years of age.With Shruti Kurien,she won both the Women’s Doubles Junior National Championship and Senior National Badminton Championship In the year 2000.since the year 2002 till the year 2008,She won the Women’s Doubles National title for 7 more years in a row with shruti kurein.Jwala partnered with Pullela Gopichand to win the Mixed Doubles National Badminton Championship 2003. In the year 2005 she teemed up with V.Diju and won the Mixed Doubles title for the second time. Further, the Jwala Gutta – V.Diju pair also won the Mixed Doubles National title again in the year 2007 and 2008.
International Badminton Career:-she entered Semi Finals in the year 2002 in an international level tournament, India Asia Satellite Tournament. She also finished up as runner up at the LE VOLANT D’OR Tournament in the year 2004. She had also reached the Final rounds of the Scottish International Tournament, 2004 and Portuguese Badminton Championship in the year 2004 in women’s doubles.
She had also won various international tournaments in women’s doubles, viz. Cyprus International tournament in the year 2007, Indian International Tournament and Pakistan International Tournament, all of them in women’s doubles.
She had won various international level championships in mixed doubles also. She won the Jakarta Satellite Tournament and Welsh International Tournament in the year 2005. Apart from these titles, she had registered victories in Sri Lanka International Satellite Tournament, Cyprus badminton International Tournament and Indian International Challenge Tournament in the year 2007. Further she won the Nepal International Series tournament, Bitburger Open Grand Prix tournament and KLRC Bulgaria Open Grand Prix Tournament in 2008.She had created history by winning a bronze medal in the women’s doubles at World Championship in 2011. She had also won gold medal in Commonwealth games, 2010 held at New Delhi in the women’s double.
She surprised everyone in the Commonwealth games by winning another gold medal in mixed doubles game also.She is one of the best women’s doubles badminton player.
Personal life :-During her Badminton career, Jwala Gutta began dating fellow badminton player Chetan Anand, who was the 1999 Junior National Badminton Champion and 2003, 2007, 2008, and 2010 Senior National Badminton Champion and has been honored with an Arjuna Award. The couple married on 17 July 2005 and got divorced on 29th June 2011.Later,Jwala was in news for her alleged link ups with former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin who is also a Member of Parliament. Though, both of them had denied the allegations.
