Mukul Roy is the leader of Trinmool Congress. Roy is appointed as a new Railway Minister of India. He is the current Minister of State for Shipping in the Council of Ministers of India.

Roy was born in 17 April 1954 at Kanchrapara, West Bengal to Mr Jugal Nath Roy. His mother was Mrs Shrimati Rekha Roy. He did his schooling from Harneet High School, Kanchrapara. He did his B Sc from Calcutta University.

Mukul is married to Krishna in 1980. The couple has a son. Roy was a Non-Executive Director (as a social worker), United Bank of India, 2002-2005. He like to watch football and cricket match.

On July 11, 2011, when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh directed Mukul Roy to visit the site of derailment of the Guwahati-Puri Express in Assam he openly defied him. This brought a lot of displeasure among the political circles and he was shunted out of the Railways portfolio in the latest cabinet reshuffle on July 12, 2011.
