“When I started playing golf, it was for fun. But when I represented India in China at the age of 16, I felt so proud to wear the Indian jacket with a peacock. And when I took up golf professionally, I wanted to do things which no one else had done. At that time there were very few female golfers and it was a tough task. But I also knew that I would do it,” – Smriti Mehra

She is a role model for many girls who want to take golf professionally.She is the first woman from India to become a member of the world’s leading golf tour for women, the U.S. based LPGA Tour. So lets know about Smriti “Simi” Mehra.

Early Life and Education:- She was born on 21 May 1972 in  Kolkata. She attended University of Calcutta.

Career:- She started playing golf at the age of 12.She won Malaysian National Championship in the year 1993. She started playing golf professionaly in 1994.

She won Malaysian Open in 2002. She won once on the second tier Futures Tour in 1996 to win promotion to the main LPGA Tour, which she played from 1997–1999, and from 2001-2004.She underwent shoulder surgery in 2005 and played on the Futures Tour in 2006 in the hope of regaining her place at the top level.

In October 2005, Mehra played LPGA Tour golfers Heather Daly-Donofrio, Hilary Lunke and Celeste Troche in the first Women’s Professional Skins Game in India to demonstrate top level women’s golf in her home country.
